The DOE number fell 14.0 cents on the week to $5.210/gal, per EIA's weekly on-highway diesel survey. At the stated 6.5 mpg reference, that is 80.2 cents a mile of fuel. The week's move trims about $10.77 from the fuel cost of a 500-mile haul at the stated 6.5 mpg reference.

The DOE number sits 40% above its 5-year median for this calendar week. Every region in the EIA survey is running between 35% and 43% above its own norm.
EIA's daily ULSD spot series put New York Harbor at $3.587/gal and the Gulf Coast at $3.527/gal as of June 8. The retail-minus-spot proxy sits $1.683/gal over Gulf Coast ULSD spot. That gap includes fuel taxes and the full distribution layer. It is a retail-layer proxy, not a station margin.
