The DOE number fell 15.1 cents to $5.059/gal on the week of June 15, per EIA's weekly on-highway diesel survey. At the stated 6.5 mpg reference, that is 77.8 cents a mile, trimming about $11.62 from the fuel cost of a 500-mile haul. The index sits 34% above its 5-year median for this calendar week.

- PADD 5 less California: $5.519/gal, down 4% on the week, the largest percentage retreat among all tracked regions. Sits 36% above its 5-year median.
- Central Atlantic (PADD 1B): $5.503/gal, down 1% on the week, the shallowest weekly decline in the survey.
- Gulf Coast (PADD 3): $4.646/gal, down 3% on the week, the lowest regional price in the survey and 33% above its 5-year median.
Gulf Coast ULSD spot closed at $3.218/gal on June 15 and New York Harbor ULSD at $3.278/gal, per EIA's daily spot series (daily wholesale, untaxed). The US pump price sits $1.841/gal over Gulf Coast spot. That gap includes fuel taxes and the full distribution layer. It is a retail-layer proxy, not a station margin.
