DOE Diesel Down 22.7 Cents to $4.832 on June 22

The DOE number fell 22.7 cents on the week to $4.832/gal as of June 22, per EIA's weekly on-highway diesel survey. At the stated 6.5 mpg reference that works out to 74.3 cents a mile, and the week's drop trims about $17.46 from the fuel cost of a 500-mile haul at that reference.

Regional reads from the same EIA release:

• Gulf Coast (PADD 3) at $4.415/gal, the lowest on the board, down 5% on the week. It sits 25% above its 5-year median.
• Midwest (PADD 2) fell 5% to $4.751/gal, matching the Gulf Coast for the week's steepest regional drop.
• Rocky Mountain (PADD 4) at $4.795/gal, off 4% on the week, 24% above its 5-year median.
• California at $6.468/gal, down 4% but 32% above its 5-year median, the widest gap from normal in the survey.
• West Coast (PADD 5) at $5.809/gal, down 4%. The West-vs-Gulf gap stands at 139.4 cents/gal.

Every region in the EIA survey closed the week 24% to 32% above its 5-year median. The national average sits 27% above its own 5-year median.

On the wholesale layer, Gulf Coast ULSD spot closed at $3.074/gal on June 22 per EIA's daily spot series, with New York Harbor at $3.094/gal the same day. The US pump price sits $1.758/gal over Gulf Coast spot. That gap includes fuel taxes and the full retail distribution layer. It is a hub-to-pump proxy, not a station margin.
