Fuel cost-per-mile calculator

Fuel cost per mile and weekly fuel spend, at this week's diesel price.

Fuel cost per mile
Weekly fuel spend

Fuel cost per mile is the price per gallon divided by miles per gallon. The 6.5 mpg default is a plain mid-fleet figure for a loaded Class 8 truck; enter your own. This is fuel only — not tolls, maintenance, driver pay, or any all-in operating cost.

Common questions

How do you calculate fuel cost per mile for a truck?

Divide the diesel price per gallon by the truck's miles per gallon. At $4.50/gal and 6.5 mpg that's about $0.69 per mile of fuel. Enter your price and mpg above.

What is a good mpg for a semi truck?

A loaded Class 8 truck commonly runs 6-7 mpg; 6.5 is a reasonable mid-fleet reference. Lighter loads and steady highway miles do better, heavy loads and terrain worse.
