Fuel surcharge calculator
Surcharge per mile and per load from a schedule's peg, base, and step.
A common schedule form: for every step the DOE price sits above the base peg, the surcharge rises by a fixed amount per mile. Defaults (base $1.25, $0.06 steps, $0.01/mi each) are illustrative — real schedules vary by contract, and some use a table or a percentage of linehaul instead. This computes the output of the schedule you enter; it does not set or suggest a rate.

Common questions
How is a fuel surcharge calculated?
Take how far the current DOE diesel price is above the schedule's base peg, divide by the step interval to get the number of steps, multiply by the per-mile increment, then by the miles. Enter your schedule's terms above.
What DOE price does a fuel surcharge use?
The EIA/DOE weekly US on-highway diesel average, published every Monday. This calculator prefills it with the current figure so the surcharge reflects this week, not a stale static page.
